Laura Hunter – Head Trainer
Education
Laura is a graduate of the prestigious Academy for Dog Trainers owned and operated by dog behaviourist and author Jean Donaldson. The Academy is considered to be one of the most rigorous and advanced programs in science-based dog behavior and training in the world.
Laura is also a graduate of the Aggression in Dogs Master Course taught by highly acclaimed trainer Michael Shikashio CDBC. Michael is the founder of AggressiveDog.com and is one of the leaders in the area of Dog Aggression.
At Home
A multi-dog household of high drive dogs has provided Laura with first hand experience managing dog interactions and dynamics. Dealing with over-arousal, reactivity and fear issues in her own dogs has given her perspective on her client’s struggles and challenges with their dogs.
Background
Laura has worked professionally with horses and dogs for over thirty years. As the owner of The Lead Horse and Steps Programs Inc. she has provided animal assisted life skills and leadership programs to clients of all ages and abilities from youth with disabilities to corporate executives. She attributes the success of these programs to her teams of well- trained dogs and horses.
Developing working animals that are highly responsive, well mannered and calm requires patience, diligence and knowledge of specific animal behaviour and psychology. Laura has studied with highly qualified professionals in both the equine and the canine fields. She continues to participate in ongoing webinars and courses with well-known trainers and behaviourists.
